SILVERBACK: The Trent Williams Story

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

“My story is built around resilience, consistency, and determination. I want to give my fans that every time I step on the field,” Trent Williams expressed in his soon to come documentary, SILVERBACK: The Trent Williams Story.

A year removed from being diagnosed with Dermatofibrosarcoma, a soft-tissue sarcoma that develops in the deep layer of skin, Williams decided to tell his story. “I didn’t want to do it at first, but my agent, Vincent, told me I should tell my story.” Williams added. “There are other people who went through what I did with the sarcoma."

Vincent Taylor of Elite Loyalty Sports has been Trent Williams’s agent since he was drafted to the Washington Football Team in 2010 and swayed him to tell his story in a documentary. “I told him it would be selfish to keep his story from the world because there are so many people going through the same thing,” said Taylor who experienced firsthand the trials and tribulations Williams’s encountered, “his thirst for business outside of football enhanced, along with a hyper-focus on family and philanthropy.”

Williams instantly became a fan favorite in the Bay area leading into free agency. Hours before the market opened, news broke overnight that San Francisco made Williams the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history. This six-year, $138 million deal with $55.1 guaranteed links Williams to the 49ers for essentially three seasons, as Williams doesn’t have any guarantees after 2024. “He’s pretty genuine and he wanted to be back here,” says 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan after handing their All-Pro offensive tackle a historical contract. “It was a dream come true, I could have went right or left, and I chose right,” Williams speaking on why he chose to resign, “the 49ers do a 10 out of 10 job on taking care of their players.”

A silverback is a dominant male gorilla. Silverbacks are leaders who scare away other animals by standing erect on its hind legs, drumming on the chest with its hands or fists, stamping its feet, striking the ground with its palms, and galloping in a mock attack on all fours. Trent Williams is a rare breed like a silverback with his explosiveness on the field, and his strength is undeniable. He has a tattoo on his foot of a silverback riding into war because he faced war with what he experienced, and he conquered all obstacles. He has always been a protector, like his position, never showing weakness. “It’s kind of weird showing my teammates this side of me but it is something everyone needs to see,” Williams admitted. You see a man who starred death in the face and won. Trent Williams is the true definition of a survivor.
